What NAPLAN Is and Why Preparation Matters

Year 7: Students sit NAPLAN for the first time as high school students. The jump in difficulty from Year 5 is substantial. Reading tasks require deep comprehension and analytical response. Writing must be highly structured. Numeracy includes algebraic thinking and statistical analysis. The Year 7 assessment is also important as a baseline for the senior years.
Year 9: The final NAPLAN assessment, taken in the middle of high school. For many students, Year 9 NAPLAN is relevant to academic streaming decisions. Numeracy in Year 9 includes scientific calculators for some components. Writing must demonstrate sophisticated argumentation and structural control.
NAPLAN and Selective School Preparation
