Chemistry Tutors Australia
Private chemistry tutoring for every year level — from Year 7 science through HSC Modules 1–8 and VCE Chemistry Units 1–4. Depth study support, exam technique, and step-by-step problem solving. Credential-checked tutors introduced within 24 hours.
Why Private Chemistry Tutoring Makes the Difference
Chemistry is consistently one of the most requested subjects for private tutoring at the senior secondary level — and for good reason. It combines conceptual understanding with mathematical problem-solving, requires mastery of specific representations (structural formulas, equilibrium expressions, acid-base calculations), and is assessed in ways that reward precise working and correct scientific language.
In a classroom, a teacher explaining equilibrium to 25 students cannot stop to check whether each student genuinely understands Le Chatelier's principle or is just pattern-matching from examples. A private chemistry tutor can. They can diagnose exactly where a student's understanding breaks down — at the conceptual level, the mathematical level, or the representation level — and address each gap individually.
For HSC students in NSW, chemistry is assessed across eight modules — from Properties and Structure of Matter through to Applying Chemical Ideas — with a significant 20-mark depth study component in Year 12. For VCE students, Units 1–4 cover a wide conceptual range with both school-assessed coursework (SAC) and external examinations. Getting both the concepts and the exam technique right requires expert tutoring.
Conceptual Clarity
Chemistry tutors break down abstract concepts — equilibrium, bonding, electrochemistry — into clear, connected explanations built on what the student already knows.
Calculation Mastery
Stoichiometry, pH calculations, electrochemical cell problems, and quantitative analysis — step-by-step working taught in the method that earns full marks.
Depth Study Support
The HSC depth study is worth 20 marks of school-based assessment. Our tutors help students design, conduct, and report on their investigation correctly.
Exam Technique
Chemistry markers reward specific language, correct significant figures, and structured responses. Our tutors teach the conventions that separate Band 5 from Band 6.
Chemistry Tutoring Across Every Stage
Our chemistry tutors cover the full range from junior secondary science through to senior secondary chemistry in every state curriculum.
Junior Secondary Science (Years 7–10): Introduction to atoms, elements, compounds and mixtures, chemical reactions, acids and bases, periodic table, metals and non-metals. Building the foundational understanding that all senior chemistry depends on.
Senior Secondary — NSW (Years 11–12): HSC Chemistry covers Modules 1–8:
• Module 1: Properties and Structure of Matter
• Module 2: Introduction to Quantitative Chemistry
• Module 3: Reactive Chemistry
• Module 4: Drivers of Reactions
• Module 5: Equilibrium and Acid Reactions
• Module 6: Acid/Base Reactions
• Module 7: Organic Chemistry
• Module 8: Applying Chemical Ideas
Our HSC chemistry tutors are experienced with the Working Scientifically framework, depth study design, and Band 6 examination technique.
Senior Secondary — Victoria (Years 11–12): VCE Chemistry Units 1–4, covering chemical analysis, molecular interactions, organic chemistry, electrochemistry, and industrial chemistry. SAC preparation and external examination technique.
Senior Secondary — Other States: QCE Chemistry Units 1–4, WACE Chemistry, SACE Stage 1 & 2. Full curriculum coverage across all Australian states.

How We Vet Our Chemistry Tutors
Chemistry tutoring requires genuine subject expertise. A tutor who found chemistry manageable in their own Year 12 is not automatically equipped to diagnose and fix a student's gaps in equilibrium chemistry or organic reaction mechanisms.
Every chemistry tutor in our network holds relevant academic qualifications — university degree or equivalent in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering, or a related STEM discipline — carries a current Working With Children Check, and has their teaching ability assessed through reference checks. We do not accept self-reported credentials.
For HSC Chemistry Module 5–8 content (the harder quantitative modules) and VCE Units 3–4, we apply additional subject expertise screening. Tutors must demonstrate the ability to work through multi-step calculation problems at examination standard and explain the working clearly.
STEM Degree Required
Chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering, or equivalent — academic qualifications verified before any student introductions.
Working With Children Check
Current and verified WWCC required from every tutor in our network, no exceptions.
Reference Checked
Professional references contacted to confirm real teaching track record and subject knowledge at the relevant year level.
Subject Depth Tested
Senior chemistry tutors screened for HSC Module 5–8 and VCE Units 3–4 proficiency, including quantitative problem-solving.
Chemistry Tutoring Rates
Junior Secondary (Yrs 7–10)
$65–$85/hr
Per session
HSC / VCE Year 11
$75–$100/hr
Per session
HSC Year 12 / VCE Units 3–4
$85–$120/hr
Per session
Chemistry tutoring rates reflect the level of subject expertise required. Senior chemistry tutoring — particularly HSC Modules 5–8 and VCE Units 3–4 — carries higher rates due to the depth of STEM qualification needed. Our matching service is always free for families.
“My daughter had completely given up on HSC Chemistry by Module 5. Her tutor rebuilt her understanding of equilibrium from scratch and she finished Year 12 with a Band 5. I genuinely didn't think it was possible six months earlier.”
